Day 31 of 365 by bowtiephotography Day 31 of 365 by bowtiephotography
I couldn't sleep, but there were some epic storms in the area, so I kept busy.

Taken somewhere *just* east of Denver, CO.

Thanks! Keep an eye on here this next Spring. A storm chaser friend and I are going to take a road trip through the central US looking for tornadoes and lightning. :)

Great shot, Robert. :) It is a real pain in my behind to photograph lightning!

It definitely takes some willpower to stand there taking the shots.

Wow, it's amazing how you photographed the bolt at the right time! It must have been pretty difficult.

It was a lot of " Stand here, aim that way, and hold the shutter open." The lightning was just lucky. :)

That's how I do it too! ;-)
That said, while I've got my camera trained on one spot there's usually fantastic lightening going on all around me.
I admire your patience! It certainly paid off!

LOL. That's about how it was this night, too. I just got lucky, is all (which is about 99% of taking shots of lightning in this way).

I cheated last time we had a storm.
I videoed the sky for a good hour then afterwards I took captures of the lightening.
That was hard enough in itself. It makes you realize just how fast a strike can be!

Whatever works for you. If that's what you have to do to get the shots you want, way to think outside the box. :)
